“Billboard is a joke”-Outraged Taylor Swift Fans Slam Billboard Over Her Ranking on Pop Star List

Billboard seems to be in its drama era. Taylor Swift fans and Billboard are not getting along at all right now. Over the past few weeks, the media giant has managed to upset more Swifties than even her most notorious rival, Ye—better known as Kanye West—has in the last ten years. It almost feels like Billboard is doing everything it can to create a viral moment, especially when it comes to making lists. And these lists feel never-ending, especially given the drama and mind-numbing discourse they spark between fandoms.

Once again, Billboard has dropped another list and successfully riled up Swifties. Billboard recently ranked the top 10 pop stars of 2024, placing Taylor Swift in the third spot. The list factored in chart success, music videos, live performances, cultural impact, and overall omnipresence. But Swifties are unable to understand who but Taylor Swift has checked all these boxes in 2024. Her ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ became a chart-topping success, even knocking newly released albums from pop stars like Billie Eilish and Ariana Grande down.

Then there was the blockbuster Eras Tour, which has officially become a $2 billion success and cemented itself as the greatest musical tour of all time. It is not just music and culture- Swift has even left her mark on the economic and political spheres with her tour and influence. Despite all that, Billboard has hailed two other artists over Taylor Swift in its greatest pop star of 2024 list. Fans are now convinced that Billboard’s staff must have something against Taylor Swift, especially considering the track record lately.

Last month, Billboard got a ton of backlash after posting a controversial clip congratulating Taylor Swift for being named the second-greatest pop star of the 21st century on their list. Swifties were not just upset about Swift landing in second place—they also thought the clip was pretty problematic, which pushed Billboard to apologize to the Grammy-winning star. And again, they have gone and sparked drama. “Billboard is a joke,” wrote a fan.

Fans feel Sabrina Carpenter might be in the running for the second or even the top spot, who is often seen as Taylor Swift’s protégé.

Whether or not Billboard makes sense, they have definitely gotten people on social media talking again, which was probably the whole point. These lists are not just about ranking—it is also about engagement. And perhaps, Billboard has now cracked that putting any Swift-related content is a sure shot way for creating some buzz, thanks to Swifties, who would not think twice before going on to defend their girl.
