The reMarkable 3 will be the third-generation E-Ink note-taking tablet from the Norwegian startup company, reMarkable.
When released, the tablet will replace the current reMarkable 2, which is widely known as the best paper tablet you can buy. The notepad is ideal for those who like pen and paper but want to digitize their notes.
reMarkable 3 Release Date
reMarkable has not disclosed any information regarding the reMarkable 3 development. But if we are to be honest, it’s about time the current reMarkable tablet gets a decent upgrade.
For instance, similar devices like the Supernote A5X and Boox Note Air 2 Plus offer support for additional features like email, calendars, and Kindle, challenging the reMarkable tablet in usefulness.
The second-generation reMarkable tablet was released in May 2020, more than three years after the first reMarkable was released in late 2017. While reMarkable has not had a long launch history yet, with just a 3-year gap between their first and second tablet launches, it’s safe to project that the reMarkable tablet is due for a refresh in 2024 or anytime in the first half of 2025.
So we expect the reMarkable 3 launch date to be no later than the Spring of 2025.
How the reMarkable 3 Works
If you’re new to the concept, here’s a summary of how the previous model works:
E Ink Display: The reMarkable 2 has a high-resolution E Ink display that mimics paper and provides a glare-free reading experience.
Marker Stylus: The reMarkable 2 stylus uses electromagnetic resonance technology to provide a precise writing and drawing experience. The stylus can also be used to take notes, annotate documents, and create sketches.
Organization: The tablet allows you to organize notes into folders and tags, which makes it very easy to search and access the content you have created.
Cloud Sync: While this function is limited, reMarkable 2 users can still sync contents to the cloud and access their files on different devices. The tablet also supports various document formats, including PDF, EPUB, and Office files.
reMarkable 3: Expected Design and Specs
Larger, Higher Resolution Display, Well-lit Screen, Faster Processor, More Storage
While the current 226 DPI resolution in the reMarkable 2 is manageable, most fans in an eReader club community we checked are hungry for a higher resolution display. If we can have a sharper resolution like 300 DPI screen, which is already available on some competitor devices like the Boox or Amazon Kindle Scribe, then it will be a worthy improvement.
Similar to getting a high screen resolution is the need to get more lighting on the front screen. Some users complain that it’s a bitter pill to chew when using the reMarkable 2 in a dark environment.
The reMarkable 2 has a 1.2GHz dual-core ARM processor and 1GB of LPDDR3 SDRAM. This specification is really good for a note-taking tablet of its kind, but if we can have an e-ink tablet that’s as quick as a smartphone, then it will be a great tool for productivity.
It might be difficult in reality due to e-ink refresh rates and the faster processing impacts on battery life, but we could still see some improvements when the reMarkable 3 launches.
With regards to storage and battery, the 3000mAH battery capacity and the 8GB internal storage capacity of the reMarkable 2 are not bad.
However, we hope to see a little improvement in the next model. Amazon Kindle Scribe and Kobo Elipsa 2E are already offering up to 32GB of storage capacity each. A larger battery capacity can also extend the battery life beyond the two-week threshold of the reMarkable 2.
reMarkable 3 Price
It may be too early to speculate on the reMarkable 3 launch price since. The reMarkable 2 price started at $399 when it arrived in 2020, and we might see the upcoming reMarkable 3 start at a similar price point.
Fans are excited about the reMarkable 3 due to rumors of potential new features and improvements, such as a higher resolution display, better lighting, a faster processor, and more storage.
