A young mother claims giving birth left a gaping hole in her labia like a ‘stretched ear lobe’ – but an NHS ‘designer vagina’ op means her boyfriend can look for the first time.
Aimee Mountjoy had labiaplasty on the NHS to repair the damage to her right labia caused by giving birth to her four-year-old son in a bad position on the toilet in September 2019.
The 21-year-old nursery teacher was left with an ‘adult fist-sized hole’ in her right labia from where her baby’s head had ‘torn’ through.
After being ‘parred off’ by doctors for four years, the nursery teacher was so ‘self conscious’ about her intimate area’s appearance she didn’t let her boyfriend, Owen Mitchell, 24, look at her private parts for the two years they’ve been together.

The young mother credits the operation for giving her the confidence for her boyfriend to see it properly for the first time.Â
On a TikTok video, Aimee responded to tens of comments from other women sharing their similarly traumatic experiences.
She explained that it took her three referrals to finally get the green light for surgery.
Aimee told commenters that her initial referral: ‘was deleted during Covid then it was a nightmare to get a referral again.’Â
However, though she has finally let her partner take a peek post-surgery, Aimee is still not happy after doctors ‘refused’ to operate on her left side leaving her labia looking ‘botched again’.

Taking to TikTok, the mother-of-one shared a clip of her in hospital immediately after surgery captioned ‘only took four years’ and ‘on cloud 9 because I got a designer vagina on the NHS’.
The footage shows Aimee wearing a hospital gown while smiling at the camera after finally having the surgery she’d been waiting four years for.
Labiaplasty involves surgery to decrease the size of the labia minora, which are the flaps of skin either side of the vaginal opening.
Aimee, said: ‘Because I had him on the toilet – most people rip to their bum that way – I ripped the opposite way. Your sensitive bits. Because of how I was sat I wasn’t in the correct position at all to give birth.
 ‘Apparently I had an adult fist-sized hole on the inside of my labia that had been torn. My baby had come through the side of my flap. I was stitched up but it basically never healed.
‘The doctors said that they wouldn’t be able to re-stitch it because of the type of tissue it is. That’s the reason why I had to have surgery.
‘If they found out earlier it might’ve just been some stitches but they parred me off for years. I was told a lot it would just heal. But obviously it never did.’
The 21-year-old admitted she was ‘self-conscious’ about her labia’s appearance and never let Owen, who became her boyfriend in 2022, take a look.
The mum-of-one said even admitted she could barely face inspecting herself.
Aimee said: ‘It looked as if you had a piercing in your lobe and put a stretcher in it and stretched it out. I have looked myself but not much because I don’t want to.
‘I was self-conscious because I was so young. I didn’t let anyone look. It didn’t feel nice.Â
‘I was still dating and I thought I couldn’t do it because I thought something was wrong. I was more nervous in those situations.
‘My boyfriend’s never actually physically noticed it but I don’t let him look. He’s been amazing and he works round it.
‘I had to do things slightly differently to the average person. Because it’s my boyfriend it’s fine but if it was someone else that wasn’t so understanding it wouldn’t be. I’m quite lucky on that one.’
Aimee admitted her painful labia meant she couldn’t wear jeans for three years and was forced to sport seamless leggings and clothes ‘two sizes too big’ – it even ‘ruined’ her job as a gymnastics coach.
She said: ‘Jeans were an absolute no for about three years because the pain was just too much. I had to wear leggings or really baggy jeans.
‘I wear cheap leggings that don’t have seams in the middle. I look like a crazy person when I’m shopping for clothes because I’m looking at the seams to see if I can wear them. I should be able to wear normal clothes now and not two sizes too big.
‘I used to do gymnastics quite a lot and I couldn’t do that after I had a baby. It was a shame because it was a hobby since I was a child.

Aimee took to TikTok to share a video following the surgery. The clip was captioned: ‘On cloud nine because I got a designer vagina on the NHS’
‘I struggled with coaching it because I couldn’t get up and down like everyone else could. It ruined my job as well.’
Despite finally having surgery, she admitted she ‘wishes’ she went private, which can cost around £4,000, after doctors refused to operate on both sides of her labia leaving her looking ‘botched’.
Aimee said: ‘They refused to do the left side to match it. They just did the right side. I wish I went private because at least they would’ve lined it up and it would’ve looked right – not like I’d been botched again.
‘I did say before going into surgery if both sides can’t be done I don’t actually want the surgery. It changed last second so I didn’t really get much choice.
‘I think that explains a lot of the gynaecology side of the NHS because it’s not great. If you have any issues with gynaecology you get parred [off] and not listened to.Â
‘It’s crazy. I knew how long it was going to take to get anything out of it.
‘It will still look botched in my opinion when it heals. I don’t want to look, I will not look. I’m not ready yet. It still leaves the hole. I don’t want anyone to look because it doesn’t look right.
‘From the angle I can see it I know it doesn’t look nice. It takes about two months to look normal. Time will tell. Owen’s been helping me recover now.’
The nursery teacher revealed she never knew labiaplasty was available on the NHS and hopes to spread awareness to help other women through her TikTok video.
Aimee said: ‘It’s nice the NHS actually offer it because I didn’t think they would. They definitely do it in niche circumstances and you have to work to get it. I’ve had loads of people message me saying they didn’t think it was possible.
‘It was their fault in the first place. I’m definitely having a home birth next time.’
