Azealia Banks has lashed out a fish market in Birmingham, branding it ‘putrid’ as she claimed she fell ill after an unexpected visit there.
The US rapper, 33, is often known for her high-profile feuds on social media, however, her latest opponent is an unlikely one in the form of the UK’s city’s local authority and its market.
Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, this week, Azealia called for city officials to ‘do something’ as she compared the Bull Ring Indoor Market to a ‘Wuhan wet market- – with the Chinese city referred to as the place the Covid pandemic likely began.
The Bull Ring Indoor Market is one of the UK’s largest indoor fish markets, offering a variety of seafood as well as meats, vegetables and other goods.
However, the 212 hitmaker was left far from impressed, remarking that she ‘caught some s**t’ and spent two day ‘bathing, massaging, drinking tea, sweating’ in a bid to rid herself of the illness.

When another X user questioned her for even being there in the first place, Azealia was quick to clarify that she was there by mistake and was in fact searching for a beauty store. Â
She penned: ‘I wasn’t even. I was looking for some falsely advertised beauty supply shop I saw on yelp and it was this little stand inside a outdoor building with this rank a*s fish market boofin up the whole space. I wasn’t like, on tour trying to buy raw fish lmao.’
Her bemused followers were quick to share their thoughts on X, writing: ‘Girl what do you expect you went to a fish market in Birmingham’; ‘Welcome to England babe x.’
While another defended the market, penning:’ Azealia there’s nothing wrong with the rag market. It’s been there longer than you have been alive.
‘There is a change in weather here and lots of people are ill. The change of summer to winter really knocks some people about. So you probably caught a cold/flu. Get well.’
