Jay Blades ‘hosts bizarre late night DJ sessions’ after being charged with controlling and coercive behaviour against his estranged wife

Jay Blades has been hosting bizarre late night DJ sessions online after being axed from The Repair Shop

The presenter, 54, was charged in September with the physical and emotional abuse of his wife, Lisa Zbozen, over a 20-month period.

According to The Mirror, Jay has since been broadcasting live streams at midnight where he chats with a small number of viewers who tune in.

In part of the stream, the TV star was seen lifting his arms in the air and also introduced himself to viewers as Jay Blades MBE.

One viewer told the publication: ‘I couldn’t believe it when I saw he was online doing a session – it’s a website called MixCloud which DJs use.

‘He seemed like a guy without a care in the world, and looked like he was having a few drinks and he was dancing away on his own – maybe that is helping to get him through.

‘At the end he said he’d be back online soon and asked viewers to keep an eye on his channels for updates about it.’

At one point during the live stream, he reportedly cut to a photo of himself and Judi Dench from when she appeared on The Repair Shop.

MailOnline has contacted representatives of Jay Blades for comment.

Blades was last seen on-air on The Repair Shop on Wednesday, September 11.

News of his coercive control case emerged the day after The Repair Shop’s social media account announced ‘an exciting new live tour’ for the show, featuring Blades.

The Repair Shop – Secrets From The Barn tour 2025, is due to see Blades and other experts from the show appearing around the country from February, including in Newcastle, Birmingham, Sheffield and Salford. Tickets are on sale for about £40.

Buckinghamshire New University (BNU) revealed Blades had resigned from his role as its chancellor ‘with immediate effect’, having been appointed in May 2022.

A statement from BNU thanked the furniture restorer – who studied criminology and philosophy there as a mature student – for ‘his loyal service to the university’.

In the wake of the charges, broadcasters have begun to drop shows featuring Jay from their schedules, while future programmes he was due to star in have been scrapped.

Creators Ricochet are eyeing up The Repair Shop’s furniture restorer Will and craftsman Dominic Chinea as potential replacements for Jay, according to The Sun.

It’s also reported that Channel 4 have confirmed that his travel series with Dame Judi Dench, The Odd Couple, will not be getting a sequel in light of the allegations.

And Channel 5 have allegedly axed plans for an upcoming documentary Jay was filming called A Country House Through Time.

The show was the latest in a string of new factual programmes the presenter was set to host and will have seen the presenter explore a series of stately homes.

Jay appeared before Kidderminster magistrates last month charged with ‘controlling and coercive behaviour’ over 20 months.

The single charge relates to his fitness instructor wife, Lisa, 43, who announced on Instagram on May 2 that she had walked out of the marriage.

The following day, West Mercia Police began an investigation after officers were ‘called to an address’ and Jay was arrested.

Court documents allege that he ‘repeatedly or continuously engaged in behaviour which was controlling or coercive, namely physical and emotional abuse, towards Lisa Zbozen’.

The alleged behaviour towards his wife ‘had a serious effect on her’ and Jay ‘knew, or ought to have known, that the behaviour would have a serious effect on her’, according to the charge.

The offences allegedly occurred between January 1, 2023, and April 9, 2024.

The couple married in November 2022 in Barbados, but in May, Lisa announced that she had walked out on him in an Instagram post where she said she was ‘very broken’.

After being charged with the coercive control of his wife, Jay resigned as an ambassador for the King’s Foundation.

The furniture restorer, along with other members of the BBC programme, won a daytime Bafta TV award last year for a special featuring the King, who was then the Prince of Wales.

An episode of Jay’s show with actor Sir David Jason – David & Jay’s Touring Toolshed – was axed from BBC1’s Friday night schedule following news of his court appearance.

Jay has also since resigned as a chancellor of Buckinghamshire New University, where he studied criminology and philosophy.

He is due to appear at Worcester Crown Court next month to enter a plea.

Blades left school at 15 with no qualifications but got back on track studying for a degree in criminology and philosophy at Buckinghamshire New University from 2001.

Following his graduation, Blades co-founded the Out of the Dark charitable social enterprise that recycled and revamped furniture to train, educate and employ young people from disadvantaged backgrounds.

And he found fame on the BBC restoration programme The Repair Shop – which sees members of the public take worn-out family heirlooms to be restored by a team of experts – starring on the show since its launch in 2017.

In 2022, a special one-off episode to mark the BBC’s centenary saw Blades and the repair team visit the King, when he was still the Prince of Wales, at Dumfries House in Scotland.

His wife said that ‘the world got the best parts of my husband’ in a post to Instagram at the end of her 18-month marriage in May.

West Mercia Police launched an investigation on May 3, the day after Ms Zbozen posted a message on Instagram stating that their marriage had ended after 18 months.

In the post to Instagram in May, Zbozen said that the end of her marriage was ‘really raw’ and that she was ‘incredibly sad about the whole thing.’

The 43-year-old fitness instructor said: ‘I don’t think I’ve ever cried so much.

‘I wanted my husband to love me & keep me safe, and I would love him right back…’

In the aftermath of the marriage breakdown, Ms Zbozen wrote that she was ‘crying as I type this I can’t believe this even real’.

She said: ‘ The world got the best parts of my husband…’

Ms Zbozen later shared an article about Blades’ charge to her 158,000 followers to her Instagram Stories.
