Bayern Munich’s fresh Harry Kane contract stance as Barcelona weigh up release clause

Harry Kane has entered the final 18 months of his contract with Bayern Munich and the England captain is being linked with a sensational summer transfer to Barcelona

Bayern Munich are increasingly confident that Harry Kane will sign a new contract and end speculation of a move to Barcelona. England captain has 18 months left on his current deal which includes a £56million release clause.

However, the 32-year-old must notify Bayern of his intention to leave before the end of January in order for the clause to become active in the summer transfer window. Kane remains happy in Munich but Barcelona emerged as a suitor earlier this season, while former club Tottenham have first refusal on paying the clause.

Barca are looking at the striker market ahead of Robert Lewandowski’s contract expiring at the end of this season. Should they decide to sign a new striker, Kane is claimed to be their top target.

But according to German publication Bild, Bayern are more and more confident that the ex-Spurs star will put pen to paper on a new deal. Although no talks were held during the winter break, Kane reiterated at a fan event that there’s ‘nowhere’ he’d rather be than Bayern.

“Obviously, there will be a lot of talk now about my contract,” Kane acknowledged. “I’m really enjoying it here. Right now, I can’t imagine being anywhere else. And days like this reinforce that when I see the support from the fans.”

When asked if he’d stay beyond the end of his current deal in June 2027, Kane replied: “That is absolutely possible, one hundred per cent. Talks will have to take place. That will happen. My focus right now is on this season but at the moment, there is nowhere I’d rather be!”

Bayern have raced away to a nine-point lead at the top of the Bundesliga, as they bid to win back-to-back titles. Vincent Kompany’s side are also second the Champions League table after six matches.

Kane, on a personal level, is once again looking to break Lewandowski’s record of 41 goals in a single Bundesliga season. He needs 23 more across Bayern’s remaining 17 league fixtures in order to do so, having scored an astounding 19 goals in their opening 15 games.

“I want to win all three trophies with Bayern,” Kane continued. “We had a great start, it’s going very, very well. We have hard work ahead of us, but I’m very confident.”

Bayern will be back in action on Sunday by hosting Wolfsburg. It’s the first of three consecutive league matches before they resume their Champions League campaign, with the chance to seal automatic qualification to the last 16 next time out.
