Chef’s ‘silky’ Christmas gravy recipe will ‘silence the whole table’

TikTok creator Veganezer’s Christmas gravy is the ultimate recipe that will ‘silence’ the whole table – here’s how to recreate it at home.

Christmas dinner simply isn’t the same without a luscious, deeply flavoured gravy to tie everything together beautifully. If you’re fed up with settling for a quick Bisto fix, recipe whizz Ebenezer Odeniyi, known as Veganezer on TikTok, has unveiled his show-stopping gravy recipe that’s guaranteed to leave your loved ones absolutely speechless, reports the Express.

You won’t require anything posh – just a selection of vegetables to create a robust foundation, plus some familiar and surprising pantry staples. In his latest clip, Ebenezer captioned: “This Christmas gravy…. Thick! Rich!! Silky!!! The kind that makes you wanna baptise your whole plate. If your roast doesn’t deserve this… upgrade your roast!”

In the vide, Ebenezer said: “This is how you make the Christmas gravy that silences the whole table. No packets, no shortcuts, just deep, rich, proper flavour. Now this is one banging gravy that everybody’s gonna love.”

The culinary creator packed his gravy foundation with an abundance of vegetables, featuring shallots, carrot, celery, mushrooms and garlic. He also incorporated red wine, soy sauce, Dijon mustard, and a dollop of Marmite for extra punch.

Ebenezer added: “Gravies don’t get any better than this.”

The food guru’s clip has racked up over 225,200 views, garnering 6,369 likes and 154 comments. One viewer penned: “That’s my Xmas dinner gravy sorted, looks banging.”

Matt commented: “Tomato puree and marmite are a short cut.”

Natalie said: “Omg that looks absolutely fabulous!! A proper gravy.”

Lawrence responded: “Marmite cheeky, gonna give it a try thanks.”

But some people disputed whether the recipe constituted “proper gravy” since it lacked any meat drippings. Dawn commented: “I will give it a miss thanks it’s not real gravy if there are no meat juices.”

Hall remarked: “The juice from meat juices needs to be chilled so you can remove the fat, I avoid turkey juice at all costs, it makes a horrible tasting gravy.”

Caz agreed: “Nope that’s not Xmas gravy as it doesn’t have the juice from the meat in it.”

So if you’re hunting for the ideal gravy recipe to accompany your Christmas feast, here’s how you can recreate Ebenezer’s version in your own kitchen.

Christmas Gravy

Ingredients

  • One tbsp olive oil
  • Two shallots, chunks
  • One carrot
  • One celery stalk
  • 150g mushrooms
  • Two cloves garlic
  • Two tbsp tomato puree
  • Two tbsp flour
  • 1/2 cup red wine
  • 500ml veg stock
  • One tbsp soy sauce
  • One tbsp dijon mustard
  • One sprig rosemary
  • Few fresh thyme leaves
  • 1/2 tsp marmite
  • 1/4 tsp sugar
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Method

Warm the pan over medium heat, pour in the olive oil, then add shallots, carrot, celery and mushrooms, cooking for six to eight minutes. Stir in the purée and flour, mixing well.

After about a minute, pour in the wine, stock, soy sauce, mustard, rosemary, thyme, marmite, sugar, salt and pepper, then leave to bubble gently for 20 minutes on low heat.

Place a sieve over a separate saucepan and strain the gravy through, extracting all the liquid.

Return the pot to the hob to heat through and achieve the desired consistency. Reheat when you’re ready to serve and savour.
