Prime Day is coming up later this month on July 16th and 17th, and that’s usually the best time of year to buy Kindles at the lowest sale prices. Sometimes Amazon rolls out Kindle deals early so keep an eye on the Prime Day deals page.
I like to try to predict the sale prices in advance, and I’m usually pretty close, but you never really know what Amazon is going to do, especially after Black Friday last year where the sale prices on the Kindle and Kindle Paperwhite were much higher than normal.
They’ve doing less sales on Kindles this year too, and with Black Friday and Cyber Monday being so lackluster last year, it makes you wonder if the upcoming Prime Day sales are going to be as good as they were last year.
You can also trade-in older Kindles during Prime Day to get an additional 20% off the sale prices, and the Kindle doesn’t even have to work to get the discount.
Before we get into the predictions, here’s a list of last year’s Prime Day sale prices on Kindles to give you a general idea of what to expect. The Kindle Oasis has been discontinued so it’s no longer available, and they also phased out the 8GB version of the Kindle Paperwhite, but all the other models are still the same.

Kindle Sales Predictions for Prime Day 2024
Kindle Scribe ($229.99) – I think the sale price on the Kindle Scribe will be quite a bit lower than last year. The 16GB version was just on sale for $239 last month, which tied the lowest price ever. I think it’ll go for even less during Prime Day. I’d expect the 32GB version to go for $269. The 64GB model might not be priced as low since it’s the best selling version so I’d guess maybe it’ll remain at the previous low sale price of $304.99.
Kindle ($59.99) – Amazon has yet to discount the 2022 model by nearly as much as they used to discount the 2019 model, so I think it’s due for a new low price now that it’s approaching 2 years old.
Kindle Paperwhite 5 ($94.99) – Last year the 8GB version with ads was on sale for $89.99, but they no longer sell that version and the 16GB model usually sells for $10 more so I don’t think the price will be quite as low as last year. However, the PW5 is nearly 3 years old now so maybe the discounts will be even larger if they’re going to replace it with a new model later this year.
Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition ($119.99) – It’s hard to see this model selling for less than it did last year considering it was $65 off, but considering its age I think maybe it could sell for slightly less this year.
Kindle Paperwhite Kids Edition ($99.99) – Last year Amazon sold the 8GB version for $89.99 as an early Prime Day deal before it was phased out, so I could see the 16GB version going for $99 this year, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it was put on sale early again.
Kids Kindle ($69.99) – The price will probably be a little lower than last year, so $50 off sounds about right.
Amazon usually has some deals on Kindle covers and accessories as well for Prime Day, but they’re usually only a few bucks off so I’m not going to try to predict those.
