Netflix’s fifth official young adult novel of the franchise, Stranger Things: Starcourt Mall Escape, written by Jennifer Brody, arrives this November 18th. The recently revealed book cover art shows Eleven and Max take center stage in the novel. With Penguin Random House behind the publication, this 320-page epic traces the summer of 1985 with Eleven and Max at the heart of the adventure. In the book, Eleven is trapped by her controlling father and longs for the teenage normalcy she sees in magazines; however, she is not alone in her misery.  

Max, who deals with a bitter home life and a threatening brother, comes along with Eleven on a daring flight to the new Starcourt Mall, their only respite in 1985 Hawkins’ summer. There, midnight films and a spontaneous food-court party are their ostensible taste of freedom. But Hawkins has its own perilous darkness lurking, and the girls might soon learn that escape begets trouble, as past demons are never far behind. This installment follows the previous publication Stranger Things: The Dustin Experiment, and is rife with details from the Netflix show, promising to keep fans hooked throughout.

Stranger Things saga continues with spin-offs and wild theories

With Stranger Things Season 5 wrapping up the main narrative, showrunners have already set the stage for additional Hawkins stories with a brand new spin-off. Netflix has announced an animated spin-off, Stranger Things: Tales From ’85, at the Annecy Film Festival in June 2025. The show tells the story of familiar Upside Down characters from the original shows’ Seasons 2 and 3, introducing brand new characters. It is set to arrive in 2026. Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer have previously gushed about their dream to create an animated series of Stranger Things, “in the vein of the Saturday morning cartoons,” to Tudum.

With a promise that the adventure continues, the animated series is set to stun with bold visuals, retro atmosphere, and fresh Upside Down creatures. While waiting for November’s book and the last Netflix season to come, the Stranger Things universe keeps growing beyond mall adventures to cartoon excitations and spin-offs. Either in bookstores or on screens or wildest fan theories, Stranger Things remain a maze of imagination, terror, and nostalgia.
