Why You’ll Love This Recipe!

I always make my own pumpkin pie spice mix. Not only am I all about DIY in my kitchen, but I also can’t easily find this mix in my grocery store. And if it’s there, it’s a tiny container that won’t last past one baking session. So a homemade version is a logical solution. Besides, it’s so easy to make and for just the amount you want.

Use this quick spice mix to make my Pumpkin Pie Crumb Bars, my No-Bake Pumpkin Pie, and the delicious Pumpkin Spice Coffee Creamer.

What spices are in pumpkin spice?

This homemade Pumpkin Pie Spice is a mix of cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, allspice, and cloves.

This is what transforms regular muffins into a rich-flavored fall treat that goes so perfectly with a hot cup of coffee or latte. It takes a plain coffee cake and elevates the flavors to make it irresistible.

I make a new batch as soon as the first chilly days arrive, and then a few more batches through the fall baking season. It’s perfect for baked goods, but also in homemade coffee creamer, frostings, glazes, as well as many savory dishes. It takes only a few minutes to combine the spices in a jar and then store the mix in your spice drawer.

Is pumpkin spice and allspice the same?

In short, no. They are not the same. These two spice mixes are often mistaken for one another. In fact, they are two different spice combinations.

I’ve noticed that a lot of people think that allspice is a blend of spices, so it’s often replaced by more cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg. Allspice is, in fact, its own spice. It’s ground dried aromatic berries from an evergreen, also called Jamaican pepper. It’s popular in Caribbean dishes. Its fragrance is similar to cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg, and often mistaken for a mix of these.
