The mother-of-three was diagnosed with stage two bowel cancer at 39. In October 2020, she revealed live on air that she had been given the all-clear.

This Morning star Dr Philippa Kaye has revealed she’s undergone a hysterectomy, seven years after her cancer struggle. The GP, who is a regular on the ITV daytime show, posted an emotional message on Instagram following her surgery. She captioned the post: “Post op thoughts don’t always make practical, intellectual sense.”

The mother-of-three was diagnosed with stage two bowel cancer at 39 and underwent treatment during that time. Her care included six months of chemotherapy combined with a 12-hour surgical procedure to remove the remaining malignant tissue.

She wrote: “Thoughts I have about my hysterectomy that do an don’t make sense. Intellectually I understand: “It was causing problems and pain. I was planning to have further pregnancies. So it wasn’t serving a purpose, was hurting and was a cancer risk.

“Emotionally though… it was part of me, it housed my babies, cancer forced me to make this decision, otherwise it would still be there.

“And the ones I know don’t make sense but are still here… Am I somehow less of a woman without my womb and ovaries? I know this is not true.

“Sometimes you can know something in one part of your brain and feel something else in another. It is why feelings are hard!”

It comes after she announced she was having surgery back in January. In the footage, Philippa wore hospital attire whilst recording herself getting ready for the procedure. “When the day of the surgery arrives, the time for worry is over.

“No more questions or concerns,” her post caption read. “You put your big girl pants on. You trust in your team and you let go. See you on the other side.”

The This Morning favourite chose Sara Bareilles’s song Brave as the backing track for her clip. Accompanying the post, she penned: “You dont ask the pilot how he flies the plane – you get on and trust them to take you away. That is what I do on op day – trust the team. Let’s go.”

Philippa maintained privacy regarding the exact nature of the operation and any medical condition, though the surgery comes seven years after her cancer struggle.

Her clip received a flood of encouragement from supporters in the comments. One fan wrote: “Sending you much love for a speedy recovery wonderful lady.”

Meanwhile another commented: “Lots of healing vibes coming your way xx”. One admirer added: “Thinking of you and your family…wishing you all the luck in the world…” Another backer declared with certainty: “You’ve got this lovely lady.”

Another wrote: “Sending love and hugs your way, trust and positivity.” One person said: “Thinking of you today! Hope the surgery goes well.”

In October 2020, she revealed live on air that she had been given the all-clear. “For the first time in nearly 18 months I am able to say that I am cancer free, that is huge, and I am hugely excited to be out of my day pyjamas to speak to you!” she told Holly Willoughby and Philip Schofield during that broadcast.

Philippa had previously revealed that despite getting the all-clear, she still needs yearly monitoring. She explained: “Mine was found to be related to a genetic mutation which doubles my risk of bowel cancer,” she wrote in The Sun.

“Even though my latest scans and colonoscopy last August were clear, I will continue to have to be assessed annually, because although my cancer was treated, my genes remain and my risk is still double the general population.”
