It’s becoming harder and harder to find really good deals on Kindle ereaders with rising costs, but you can still find occasional good deals on Kindles from Amazon and their partner websites if you know where to look.
Amazon used to be known for putting Kindles on sale all the time. There are still a couple times of year where you can get a Kindle at significant discount, namely Prime Day and Black Friday (which Amazon segways into Cyber Monday weekend). But the random sales and holiday sales throughout the year aren’t nearly as good or as frequent as they used to be in years past.
Now Amazon mostly just puts the least-popular Kindles and bundle packages on sale, while charging full price on the most popular models for several consecutive months in a row. For instance, the Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition hasn’t gone on sale yet in 2025, and it’s only been on sale once since it was released last October (Amazon did have bundle packages on sale somewhat recently, but that is rare).
Kindle Paperwhite Deal Tip (Current Model)
The lastest Kindle Paperwhite, which is the most popular Kindle model, has only gone on sale once so far in 2025. However, you can often get a discount on this model by buying a bundle that’s cheaper than buying the Kindle Paperwhite by itself (yeah, Amazon is weird that way).
The Kindle Paperwhite Kids bundle has gone on sale 4 times this year. In fact, it’s on sale right now as of this writing, and it’s $20 cheaper than buying the Paperwhite alone (and they’re the same exact Kindle). Plus it comes with a case and an upgraded 2-year worry-free guarantee that covers accidental breakages, unlike the standard Kindle warranty. You can also get an extra $20 off when buying 2. It’s by far the better deal, but judging by Amazon’s estimated monthly sales numbers very few people actually notice it and take advantage of it.
Kindle Paperwhite – Previous Gen
One of the better ways to get a previous generation Kindle for cheap without having to deal with random strangers on the internet is to wait for a Woot sale. Woot is owned by Amazon and they frequently have refurbished and sometimes new or open box previous gen Kindles on sale for cheap.
Right now they have the 2021 Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition available for $109.99 as Grade A refurbished, and $69.99 as Grade C scratch and dent. Plus you can get an extra $5 off with code FIREFIVE. That’s a pretty good deal considering these sold for $189 new as recently as 8 months ago.
Sometimes Woot deals aren’t so great, though, so you have to do a bit of research. Like right now they have the 2022 basic Kindle for $77.99 refurbished. Considering it sold for $99 brand new and frequently went on sale for $79 or less that really isn’t the greatest deal.
Basic Kindle 2024 – Kids Model
It’s the same story with the latest basic Kindle as it is with the 12th gen Kindle Paperwhite mentioned above. The Kindle kids bundle goes on sale more frequently than the regular Kindle when purchased on its own. The 2024 Kindle has only gone on sale once since it was released last October, but the kids bundle has been on sale 4 separate times. It’s on sale right now, and it’s $5 cheaper than buying the same exact Kindle by itself without a cover and without an upgraded warranty.
Kindle Trade-Ins
Don’t forget about trade-in discounts. One of the unique things with Amazon is you can trade-in old Kindles (and other devices) to get 20% off the price of a new Kindle. Even if your old Kindle is broken you can still get the discount plus a $5 credit for your broken Kindle. These deals also stack with sales so you can get an even greater discount by combining the two.
