Marvel and DC’s First Most Wanted Crossover Is Finally Happening

Marvel’s blockbuster reign owes much to its knack for mixing gripping stories with heroes we actually care about—think Spider-Man, Iron Man, and the Avengers squad. After smashing it with hits like WandaVision and Loki, Marvel’s magic started to wear thin with Eternals and She-Hulk, sparking superhero burnout and debates over forced politics. Meanwhile, DC’s Wonder Woman did not quite soar as expected. But wait—an unprecedented crossover event is coming that will change everything.

Deadpool and Batman are set to clash in wild new tales, casuing cosmic waves across the DC and Marvel fan bases.

Back in February, Marvel and DC revealed at a ComicsPro panel in Glendale that they are teaming up for a massive crossover for the first time in over 20 years. As Entertainment Weekly reported, Marvel’s Zeb Wells will write a Deadpool/Batman one-shot launching September 17, where Deadpool will meet Batman for the first time. Marvel’s Dan Buckley and DC’s Jim Lee emphasized how rare and complex these events are, with Lee noting, “So you want the story, creatively, to warrant the hype of it all.” These one-shots will also feature other exciting match-ups between DC and Marvel characters.

Zeb Wells, known for his run on Amazing Spider-Man, nearly took a break—until Marvel tempted him with the chance to unleash Deadpool in Gotham alongside the legendary Greg Capullo. “I no longer needed a break,” Wells said. In this chaotic tale, Deadpool pushes Batman’s patience to the limit as a city-wide threat from the Joker looms. While fans are buzzing, not everyone is jumping back in—Ben Affleck has made it clear that he is done with the superhero game.

Ben Affleck officially hung up the cape for good—this time, he did not just hint, he fully revealed the reasons behind his decision to walk away from the superhero genre.

No cape comeback: Ben Affleck’s candid confession

Recently, he told GQ that the challenges were deeper than just acting in a superhero film—they stemmed from conflicting visions and misunderstandings. Affleck also acknowledged his own difficulties and admitted he was not always a positive influence during the process. At this point, he has no plans to revisit the superhero world.
