The brewing political storm in the US has drawn celebrities nationwide to take a stand and urge people to vote. Now, Blake Lively has stepped up to join the cause, using her Instagram stories to share a series of PSAs on domestic violence, voting, and more. Lively’s first story highlighted October as National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, along with resources shared from the National Hotline for support in the US.
The following slides featured links to organizations offering regional support. Lively also shared excerpts from the National Domestic Violence Hotline, educating her audience on the different types of abuse, recognizing warning signs, and creating a safety plan. She also took the chance to remind everyone about online voter registration deadlines, encouraging people to spend just five minutes each day verifying their registration and making informed decisions about their leaders.
While celebrities are doing their best to motivate people to vote, some endorsements—like Taylor Swift’s—are starting to impact their star power.

When Taylor Swift publicly backed the Democrats on Instagram last month, praising Kamala Harris and Tim Walz for their work in protecting LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and women’s rights, voter registration sites saw a surge in new registrations and existing voters checking their status. However, a recent NBC News poll reveals that weeks after her endorsement, around 47% of Republicans now view Swift unfavorably.
This marks a sharp increase from the 26% who viewed her negatively in NBC’s November 2023 poll. Currently, only 12% of Republicans have a positive view of Swift, down from 28% last year. This significant shift among Republican voters has caused Swift’s overall favorability rating among registered voters to drop from 40% last year to 33% this year. It is as if the political storm has the sun rising on one side while leaving the other in shadow.
