The comic book universe was on a runaway train this year with page-turning heroes and villains leaping to the big screen. Marvel’s cinematic juggernaut hit a grand slam with Deadpool & Wolverine, but DCU was handed a Joker-esque wild card with Folie à Deux, which failed to live up to its hype. Despite the cacophony of criticism from the musical’s off-key notes to Lady Gaga’s Harley Quinn falling flat, fans still hoped for a redemption arc to rescue the DC Universe from its creative crisis. While The Batman II is still in the shadows, whispers of Bill Skarsgård’s interest in portraying an iconic villain in Gotham’s dark alleys have set fans’ imaginations ablaze.
In a recent conversation with Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Nosferatu actor Bill Skarsgård discussed comic book characters before revealing he has been a Batman comic fan through and through. When Horowitz swung open the doors of destiny, offering Skarsgård the choice to embody the Caped Crusader or the Clown Prince of Crime, the actor hedged his bets, proposing a diabolical twist before confessing that he would probably make a “f–king cool Joker.”

Initially, Bill Skarsgård pitched in for a role reversal where Batman’s cowl concealed the Joker’s grin and vice versa. However, upon narrowing down his savior syndrome, he sided with the sinister catalog of DC with his interest knocking on none other than the Joker’s door. “That would be pretty sick,” Skarsgård stated. Josh Horowitz asked Skarsgård to reveal his ace pick for the most iconic Joker. And when the It actor laid down the Heath Ledger card, fans knew where Skarsgård was coming from.
While Bill Skarsgård truly has it in him to hit the home run with gritty malevolent portrayals, fans also saw the Joker in him when he did not shy away from his interests.
