The award season arrived in style with the Golden Globe Awards in Los Angeles at Beverly Hilton. Among the star-studded guest list, Lee Jung-jae and Hwang Dong-hyuk of Squid Game were approached by Deadline on the carpet for some insights into the third and final season of the hit series. According to the creators, the third season will differ slightly from the first and second installments with more “twists and turns” and “conflict between the characters.”

With heightened complexity and chaos awaiting the final chapter of Squid Game, the series will supposedly blindside the audience, upending their assumptions and catapulting them to uncertainty. The suspense was palpable, but Jung-jae and Dong-hyuk were just getting started. They dealt fans a wild card, revealing that the third season is hurtling towards a grand finale, with post-production in high gear. Thus, all that remains is a Netflix countdown.

While the anticipation rises with each passing day for the third and final season of Squid Game, the series made history with a Golden Globe nomination.

Squid Game’s Golden Globes nomination is a testimony of legacy

However, the installment got its golden ticket for Best Drama alongside Peacock’s The Day of the Jackal, Netflix’s The Diplomat, Prime Video’s Mr. & Mrs. Smith, FX/Hulu’s Shogun, and Apple TV+’s Slow Horses. The difference between these entries and Squid Game was the others already aired, while Netflix was waiting to bring the Korean thriller to fans on December 26.

Although Golden Globes nominating titles that are yet to be released are not new, they mostly occur with movies instead of TV series. Technically, a show must premiere in the previous calendar year to be eligible for an award for the next. However, with Squid Game flipping the script, it is no wonder the creators are rewriting the rules for the third to leave the viewers guessing.
