NYC’s Best Breakfast Burrito Is Served in a Quaint Brooklyn Bakery

As a part of Snack Shop series, Annie Arriaga investigates the latest and greatest viral snack shops in New York City to see if the hype is real, if the snacks are yummy, and if the spot is underrated, overrated, or perfectly rated.

A good breakfast burrito is hard to come by—even in New York City. Too small, too overstuffed, mushy in the middle, or just plain bad, I’ve had my fair share of mediocre and eggy breakfast burritos that never quite do the trick. When we connected with the TikTok icons Grant & Ash about being guests on an episode of Snack Shop, they had a quick and immediate suggestion: Ceremonia Bakeshop. I’ve seen this little Williamsburg spot on my social media feeds before, namely for their breakfast burrito and creative pastries, and I was pumped to get a chance to try it for myself in hopes of not being disappointed by yet another bad breakfast burrito.

For those unacquainted, Grant & Ash (also known as A Twink and a Redhead) are a musician and influencer superduo. They’re also very, very funny. Lucky for me, the two came to join my Brooklyn breakfast adventure at Ceremonia—a place where they’re regulars, always opting for two quick vanilla lattes (iced for Grant, hot for Ash) and the occasional pastry.

The Snacks

Ceremonia Bakeshop is on a cute little corner of Williamsburg, Brooklyn. When you open the door to enter, you’re hit with the strong, confectionery aroma of baked goodies in the oven and the comforting sound of a hissing espresso machine. And, if you’re with Grant & Ash, like I was, the sound of a lot of laughter and witty one-liners. The pastry case is overwhelming, ranging from colorful poundcake loaves to lovely little mochi bites. They also have a full breakfast menu with classic items like avocado toast or biscuit egg sandwiches. Before walking in, Grant & Ash were set on getting the breakfast burrito and a cinnamon roll, the latter being Ash’s favorite.

Cinnamon roll. Ceremonia’s cinnamon roll is less doughy and more pastry-like. It’s covered in a gorgeous sugary glaze rather than smothered in cream cheese icing. It’s moist without tasting raw or bready (unlike a lot of cinnamon rolls), and it’s wider than the average roll. One bite in and it’s undoubtedly delicious but the sugar rush kicks in quickly because of that crunchy, smooth outside glaze. And, if you’re anything like me, the fact that this roll is wider and less bready means you can just skip to the cinnamon sugary center part of the pastry.

Breakfast burrito. Grant always gets the burrito with added avocado, so that’s how we ordered it. Inside this giant flour-tortilla-wrapped bundle of joy is chorizo, roasted potatoes, scrambled eggs, cheddar cheese, scallions, (plus avocado if you’re extra like we are) and a house-made fire-roasted tomatillo salsa on the side. It’s a little on the pricy side—about 12 dollars normally, and 14 with avocado—but it’s big enough to make do for breakfast and lunch. Yes, this burrito tastes just as delicious as it looks. The eggs are scrambled without being mushy and each bite comes with a salty kick from the chorizo and potatoes. The scallions add a fun touch and the salsa is the perfect complement. It’s hard to stop eating this once you start. Grant and I each had half of a burrito and slathered salsa on each bite. No notes. It was so good that we just sat and ate in silence.

Chocolate chip cookie. When going to a new bakery, I like to try their plain chocolate chip cookies. It’s one of the simplest expressions of a bakery’s personality— dense and cakey, thin and crunchy, salty or plain— and Ceremonia’s cookie was a must-order recommendation from Grant. Thin and sprinkled with chunks of sea salt, Ceremonia’s cookie was gooey in the middle and crunchy on the outside. A good, honest cookie.

Final Rating

This feast at Ceremonia was one of my favorite breakfasts in a while, and not just because of the company. I declare Ceremonia Bakeshop to be perfectly rated. Their breakfast burrito deserves all the hype and the pastries are definitely worth getting on the side. If you want the true Grant & Ash experience, order a vanilla latte, cinnamon roll, and a breakfast burrito with added avocado—you won’t be disappointed.

If you’re reading this and you have a suggestion for a Snack Shop in the city that I must visit and (honestly) rate, leave a comment here or on our Snack Shop TikTok video. I love suggestions!
