Delusional fantasist Rob Keating targeted American Alexandra Saper and sent chilling pictures from locations she visited including a picture of a body in a suitcase alongside videos of him threatening to do the same to her
A British fantasist who followed a social media influencer to Bali and threatened to rape and kidnap her has been given an interim hospital order by a judge while he awaits sentencing.
Stalker Rob Keating targeted American Alexandra Saper and sent chilling pictures from locations she visited. The 40-year-old of Old Crawley Road, Horsham, West Sussex even sent her a picture of a body in a suitcase alongside videos of him threatening to do the same to her.
Keating, from Horsham, West Sussex, was convicted at Portsmouth Crown Court in May of stalking involving fear of violence. Judge Michael Bowes KC imposed the order to allow for further psychiatric assessments. Judge Bowes said he had adjourned sentencing “based on the reports of two forensic psychiatrists”.
“Each recommends an interim hospital order for further assessment,” he said. “I received the appropriate written evidence that the offender is suffering from a mental disorder and it is appropriate the order is made and a bed is available today. I am going to make the order today for 12 weeks.” A further hearing has been set on 13 February 2026.
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said Keating first contacted the travel influencer through Instagram in June 2022. A force spokesman said the complainant reported receiving hundreds of emails and 30 videos from Keating during a six-month period.
He said: “In December 2022, she received an email from Keating in which he threatened to kidnap her and sent links to videos he had made, further threatening to kidnap and rape her. He also sent her a photo of a body in a suitcase, alongside videos of him threatening to do the same to her.
“Keating threatened to travel to Bali, Indonesia, where the woman lives, to kidnap her. After the woman’s friends saw Keating in person close to her address, the woman fled to a friend’s address and contacted local police, before later leaving the country, fearing for her safety.”
Keating was arrested at Gatwick Airport on 6 March 2023 but contacted Ms Saper again more than a year later with screenshots of flights to Bali with the caption “Round Two”. Keating was arrested again on 11 November 2024.
Ms Saper – a former lawyer who now makes money from her Instagram page The Wayfarer, which has more than 100,000 followers – told the court she fled the country because she was so “terrified” he would find her. She blocked Keating on the social media platform after he shared extracts from the erotic S&M novel Fifty Shades of Grey.
However, he then began bombarding her with videos and messages over email and used another profile to continue viewing her posts, which he believed were secret messages to him. Ms Saper tried to block his emails too but that just sent them to her spam folder. In a video about her ordeal, posted at the time, Ms Saper also said she felt she was being “hunted like prey”.
Ms Saper was so concerned that she fled to Laos to put distance between her and Keating. Giving evidence at court, the influencer said she “didn’t think” he would actually make the trip to the tropical island.
“I blocked him on everything and never responded, so that was a pretty clear indication of not wanting contact,” Ms Saper added. “I was aware that he was talking about coming to Bali, but I didn’t think it would actually happen. I shared because I wanted my life back, there was nothing I could do staying in hiding,” she said. “I was sick, I couldn’t eat, I was depressed.”
In his own evidence, Keating had tried to claim the kidnap threats were just “playful ridiculousness” and that the ordeal had had “no adverse effect” on Ms Saper. He tried to tell the court that because of the “Anchorman” memes on his Instagram profile there was no way she would take him seriously.
