Welcome to our special segment, DRS or the Daily Review System. In this, InsideSport will provide you with the top cricket stories from a day before that you might have missed in the hustle and bustle of your busy life.
The last day of April was quite eventful. For starters, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) were knocked out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. Punjab Kings’ (PBKS) Yuzvendra Chahal claimed a hat-trick, and Glenn Maxwell was ruled out of the tournament. CSK captain MS Dhoni was asked about his retirement from the IPL, and Rohit Sharma opened up about his performance for the Mumbai Indians (MI). In non-IPL news, we got an update regarding the India cricket team’s squad for the England Test tour.

Rohit Sharma to captain in England
Despite a career-worst performance in Australia, the BCCI has decided to stick with Rohit Sharma as Team India’s captain for the upcoming 5-match Test tour of England. There are some other developments as well. Shreyas Iyer isn’t in the scheme of things, while Sarfaraz Khan might be dropped as well. Read more here.

CSK eliminated from IPL 2025
CSK have been knocked out of the IPL 2025. After losing their 8th match of the season to PBKS at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, the 5-time champions are the first team to bow out of the playoffs race. This is the first time since the tournament’s inception that CSK have failed to reach consecutive playoffs.

Glenn Maxwell ruled out with injury
PBKS have suffered another injury blow. The Shreyas Iyer-led team had already lost Lockie Ferguson to a hamstring injury, and now it seems like they have another foreign player in Glenn Maxwell. The Australian all-rounder has fractured his finger, which Shreyas confirmed before facing CSK.

Chahal takes 2nd IPL hat-trick
Yuzvendra Chahal claimed his 2nd and the IPL’s 23rd hat-trick against CSK. In the 19th over of the first innings, Shreyas Iyer handed the ball to the leg spinner. Chahal struck on the 2nd ball, getting MS Dhoni caught. But he wasn’t done. On the 4th, 5th and 6th balls, he got the wickets of Deepak Hooda, Anshul Kamboj and Noor Ahmad.

Is MS Dhoni retiring after IPL 2025?
As has been the case, MS Dhoni was once again asked about retirement. Before the match against PBKS started, at the toss, the CSK captain was asked whether he’ll return to Chepauk next year as well. Dhoni dodged the question and replied jokingly that he isn’t sure he’ll play the next match.

Rohit Sharma looking to make ‘impact’ for MI
Rohit Sharma isn’t even among the top 20 batters of the IPL 2025 season when it comes to runs scored. Although the former MI captain has hit back-to-back fifties, in his other 7 innings, Rohit has scored just 94 runs. He realises that his form has been a bit boom or bust but says that his job is to play impactful innings.
