Tumbling River Ranch, an all-inclusive stay in Colorado’s Pike National Forest, reopens this month following an $8 million renovation designed to update the experience while keeping the property’s heritage intact.

Set in a Rocky Mountains valley, about 60 miles from Denver, the ranch features a new lodge, five new guest rooms, and thoughtfully upgraded cabins and common spaces built for year-round stays.

“Tumbling River Ranch is a magical hideaway protected from the outside world by the mountains and trees of the million-acre Pike National Forest,” says Jasen Mark, the ranch’s owner. “We spent the last two years carefully renovating the ranch to reimagine and modernize it without making it feel like we did.”

Dating back to 1946, the property has long been a low-key launchpad for exploring the region’s great outdoors. Today, guests can access a seasonally rotating set of included activities like horseback riding, archery, mountain biking, ice skating, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing, along with the option to book excursions farther afield (for an additional fee), such as whitewater rafting, rock climbing, and fly-fishing.

Guests checking in this month will find a new lodge with a reception lounge, a main dining room, an activities room, and a cozy bar and lounge overlooking Geneva Creek. The renovation also includes five new guest rooms created by repurposing existing buildings, while the remaining 16 accommodations were fully refreshed. This includes the property’s four-bedroom ranch house, built in 1936 as a summer home for a former Denver mayor.

The renovation was led by Colorado-based Resort Design Architects, focused on preserving the ranch’s historic character while adding contemporary comforts. Many rooms include fireplaces and porches, and renovations leaned into reuse and upcycling to honor the property’s history and reduce environmental impact. Bathrooms were rebuilt with custom tile, Waterworks fixtures, and custom vanities, while beds feature organic mattresses and sustainable linens. The interiors by Carma House of Design favor a vintage-inspired look, layering custom furniture and antiques with lower-impact materials, plus original artwork by a local artist.

The all-inclusive experience centers around three daily meals and beverages, with the new main dining room featuring an open-fire cooking setup.

Nightly rates at Tumbling River Ranch start from $840 in winter and $1,180 in summer, and you can book your stay at tumblingriver.com.
