Conor McGregor insists Anthony Joshua should continue his boxing career despite his crushing defeat to Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium.

AJ was knocked down four times on Saturday night, with the last knockdown in the fifth round proving enough for Dubois to retain his IBF heavyweight title.Ā

McGregor was one of a number of celebrities in the crowd for the big fight in London, and was seen jumping out of his seat when Dubois knocked Joshua down in the first round.Ā

Speaking to YouTube channel ‘The Stomping Ground‘ after the fight, McGregor reacted to comments from Ricky Hatton who had previously told them that he would like Joshua to retire.Ā

McGregor responded: ‘AJ is number one. This is his eighth stadium show. He’s a legend forever.’

When asked if there was a way back, McGregor added:’ For sure there is, he had him, he smacked him back, he stood his ground but then went forward and got clocked.Ā

‘It’s only boxing. You get clocked you can catch someone. Of course he can come back for sure.’

The UFC star had a ton of praise for Dubois after his excellent win on Saturday night, while also criticising Joshua’s technique.

He said: ‘Daniel Dubois had no pressure on his shoulders coming in here.Ā Ā

‘Very calm, very composed and it showed, he came here to go after him (Joshua).

‘Joshua was showing the same shot over and over.’

McGregor wasn’t the only one who suggested that Joshua can come back.

Dillian Whyte and Derek Chisora both told Mail Sport that AJ can come back after a break.

Whyte said: ‘Dubois was sharper and stronger tonight. He hurt AJ in the first 20 seconds with a jab and a right hand he was good today, he was on point and did what he had to do.’

When asked if Joshua underestimated Dubois, Whyte added: ‘No he overestimated him. He was thinking too much, he wasn’t aggressive, he wasn’t moving around and thinking a lot.’

Chisora meanwhile said: ‘It was a great shot, a beautiful shot and give a shout out to Daniel. Well done to Daniel for an amazing shot.’

When asked if he thought Dubois would beat Usyk if they were to have a rematch, he added: ‘The way Daniel is going right now, yeah why not.’

McGregor during his appearance at Wembley insisted that his return to the UFC will come in 2025 and made one huge demand to go with it.

Speaking to DAZN, McGregor said: ‘It will be 2025. We will see. My opponent that I had scheduled… it is what it is. I take it on board and rock on.Ā

‘My job is to go to the gym and be in shape. Whenever it is and wherever it is. I will be 100 per cent ready. I must get two fights in 2025. It’s the promised land.Ā

‘Who knows (who the next opponent will be). It does not matter. Whoever, let’s see. I like it to be Chandler. I wish him well and see where it goes.’
