A man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering a law firm worker who plunged 30ft to her death from a hotel balcony in Ibiza.
Robyn Eve Maines, 24, was described as ‘beautiful inside and out with everything to live for’ by close relatives following her tragic death in the resort of San Antonio in September 2022.
The law graduate from Wallasey, Wirral was holidaying with her partner, who is understood to have been with her when she fell and alerted hotel reception staff.
At the time, authorities on the Spanish island said they had ‘ruled out the involvement’ of anyone else in the latest tragic death of a British holidaymaker on the island, saying it was not being treated as a crime.
But in a dramatic twist ahead of today’s second anniversary of her death, Merseyside Police have now revealed that a 27-year-old man from London has been arrested on suspicion of her murder.
A 27-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering law firm worker Robyn Eve Maines, 24, who plunged 30ft to her death from a hotel balcony in Ibiza in September 2022

In response, her heartbroken family said: ‘We just want justice for Robyn.’
Ms Maines and her partner were staying at the four star adults-only Rosamar Hotel, a short walk from the beach in Cala de Bou, in the west of the island and a short drive from San Antonio.
Her body was discovered at 8.30am on Sunday, September 25, 2022 after falling from a second floor balcony.
At the time, her mother Claire said: ‘Our beautiful 24-year-old daughter sadly passed away after falling 30ft off her balcony. There are no words for us. We are truly heartbroken.’
Her brother Cam added: ‘She will forever be loved and remembered for the fantastic person she is.
‘Our hearts bleed for the loss of someone so special. I love you big sis always will.’
Launching an online fundraiser to repatriate her body and cover funeral costs, Ms Maines’ aunt Diane Morrisey described her as ‘a beautiful person inside and out with everything to live for’.
She said her niece had graduated from university after studying law, going on to work for a firm of solicitors.
‘To say the family are devastated is an understatement,’ she wrote.
‘All we know at present is that Robyn had fallen 30ft from her balcony with police investigations still ongoing.’
Paying tribute, her employer, CEL Solicitors, described Ms Maines as ‘a much loved and incredibly valued member of our team’.
At the time a Civil Guard source said: ‘The autopsy has taken place and has ruled out the involvement of another person in this woman’s death.
‘It did not occur as the result of a crime.’
Merseyside Police are appealing for any witnesses to the incident in September 2022 at the Rosamar Hotel, Ibiza (pictured)
Today Merseyside Police revealed that following a review of materials sent over by Spanish authorities, they were now investigating her death.
Detective Inspector Phil Ryan said: ‘On the second anniversary I am appealing for any witnesses who may have been staying at the hotel in September 2022 and who are based in the UK to come forward.
‘Perhaps you return to this same hotel on the same date every year.
‘Were you there in 2022 and did you see or hear anything or do you have any other information which could assist with our investigation?
‘At this stage Robyn’s death is being treated as unexplained and we are carrying out a number of lines of enquiry, but it is vital that people come forward and tell us what they know.
‘Robyn’s family have understandably been left devastated by her death and are still seeking answers as to what happened.’
In a statement issued by Ms Maines’ family they said: ‘Our beautiful daughter Robyn Eve Maines was tragically taken away from us on September 25, 2022 at the Hotel Rosamar in Ibiza.
‘Please if anyone saw or heard anything around this time can you please come forward and contact the police. We just want justice for Robyn.’

The latest tragedy to hit the island came just last month when law student Emma Ramsay, 19, was on holiday with friends in San Antonio when she fell from her sixth floor balcony at Hotel Vibra District.
Paramedics rushed to the scene but the Strathclyde University student was declared dead at the scene.
In June 2023 amateur footballer John McKenna, 22, from Carlisle in Cumbria, died in the same resort after plunging from a three-star hotel.
