Prior to her spectacular performance at Tokyo 2020, Maria competed in Rio in 2016 where, she achieved her personal best and a new Polish national record – 67.11 metres – though sadly she missed out on a bronze medal by just two centimetres.
Maria’s personal best in the sport is currently a throw of 71.40 metres, in 2021. It is the Polish record as well as the third best result in the history of the women’s javelin throw competition.
The impressive javelin thrower is from Suwałki, a city in northeastern Poland. She boasts 164,000 followers on her Instagram account where she shares training videos, and sweet pictures of her travelling and cuddling her pet dog.
Clearly a good sense of humour alongside her looks, the Olympic medallist cheekily has in her social media bio the line: ‘Quite good at throwing sticks.’
In a recent post, Maria shared a selection of adorable pictures of her travelling in London with friends. Thought of as one of the most desirable women in Poland in 2018 she was taken off the market by athletics coach and former journalist Marcin Rosengarten, with the pair appearing together at various swanky sports galas.
Maria’s performance in Paris will mark her first Olympic games since her impressive feat of generosity after the Tokyo games in 2021.
Not even two weeks after the thrower earned herself the silver medal, had she put it on sale on Facebook in an effort to raise funds for Miłoszek Małysa, an eight-month-old boy who urgently needed travel funds to get from Poland to California to have life-saving heart surgery.
She wrote at the time on Instagram: ‘It didn’t take me long to decide, it was the first fundraiser I entered and I knew it was the right one. Miloszek has a serious heart defect and is in need of surgery.
‘He already has a head start from Kubus — a boy who didn’t make it in time but whose amazing parents decided to pass on the funds they collected.

Maria herself, had experienced cancer after a sinus X-Ray in 2018 revealed that she had from osteosarcoma, a type of cancer that is found in the bones.
Luckily, the Polish thrower was treated for her condition without the need for chemotherapy and was shortly after able to begin training for the 2020 Olympics in Japan.

‘I believe fate is sometimes very unfair when it gives great suffering to someone from the very beginning of their life on earth.’
Since her experience with cancer, Maria has worked to help others suffering with the condition and has worked to help children going through similar challenges.
She told Survivornet: ‘I think my health problems made me want to help others because I understand what it’s like and how hard – what I knew was that I wanted to help a tiny person who was in pain.
The Polish credited her dedication to her beloved sport as a driving factor behind her recovery and her motivation to help and support others.
At the time of her charitable fundraiser, Maria acknowledged the true value of a medal but insisted that she wanted to ‘give back the happiness’ to someone else.
‘A medal is only an object, but it can be of great value to others,’ she said at the time.
The fundraiser for baby Miloszek was looking for 1.5million Polish zloty, just over £280,000, with Maria hoping to fund half of that amount by auctioning her medal.
The Polish convenience store, Zabka won the auction, raising a total of £130,000 with further contributions have taken the figure past the £140,000 target.
