Terrifying moment schoolgirl, 17, is dragged along a street after leg is trapped in closing bus door

A shocking video shows the terrifying moment a teenage schoolgirl nearly died when getting dragged along a street after her leg was trapped in a closing bus door.

Zoe Hague, 17, was badly injured and suffered three days of concussion following the incident in which she tried to frantically attract the drivers attention as she was dragged alongside the bus.

Fortunately some of the passengers witnessed what was happening and managed to shout at the driver who eventually stopped but then left the injured girl at the roadside while he continued on his route.

Her terrified mother, Cheryl said: ‘It’s a miracle she is still alive. She could easily have died, it’s horrific. She could easily have been paralysed.’

Zoe, who was on her way to Notre Dame High School, in Sheffield said: ‘I was just stepping on the bus when the doors shut, trapping my leg in the door. Suddenly the bus set off and pulled me down and started dragging me along the road.

‘I was trying to stay upright but my other leg was dragging on the floor and I was banging on the door trying to get the driver’s attention.

‘I was terrified. I thought I was going to be thrown under the wheels.

I heard passengers shouting at him to stop otherwise I dread to think what would have happened.

‘I don’t really remember the pain at the time but looking at the video the incident lasted for at least 15 seconds and the force ripped my trousers open on my knee and tore off my trainer.’

Zoe said the driver of the TM Travel 30 bus opened the door to free her leg and then asked if still wanted to get on the bus which she refused.

She added: ‘I was completely dazed and my trousers were ripped exposing my bloody knee and my trainer laces had all broke so the shoe was off. I was in no fit state to go anywhere and was in pain.’

Zoe contacted her mother Cheryl who picked her upset daughter up from the bus stop and later took her to A and E after her knee continued to swell and it was clear she had a concussion.

Cheryl said: ‘It was lucky I was working from home that day so I could collect her. I was so upset when she told me the driver had left her in that state – she was obviously in paid and confused.

‘It’s harrowing. If I had hit a cat or a hedgehog in my car I would have taken it to a vet for treatment – so to leave a teenage girl in that state at the side of a road is awful. She didn’t know where she was and was dazed for a few days.

‘I am grateful that some passengers who were aware of what was going on and shouted to the bus driver or I dread to think what could have happened. Some have contacted me since and said they were pretty shaken just from watching the incident unfold.

‘Fortunately that day she was wearing thick cord trousers which offered a bit of protection – often she wears short skirts and has bare legs.’

Cheryl drove Zoe to school for a few days until she was well enough to get the bus and reported the incident to the bus company and South Yorkshire Police.

But just days later she was left shocked when Zoe saw the same driver still driving the bus on the same route.

Cheryl said: ‘We reported it to the bus company as we wanted to make sure it didn’t happen to anyone else – but then I found out he is still on the route so am a bit baffled by that.’

A spokesperson for TM Travel’s parent company, Wellglade, told The Star: “We are aware of this matter which is now in the hands of our investigating officer.”
