Welcome to our special segment, DRS or the Daily Review System. In this, InsideSport will provide you with the top cricket stories from a day before that you might have missed in the hustle and bustle of your busy life.
Virat Kohli has revealed what moment he will hang up his boots from the Indian Premier League (IPL). Well, his lion-hearted mentality means the superstar is planning to dominate until he is forced into being an Impact Player. Meanwhile, some news came our way related to the Duleep Trophy, a tournament that will start the new domestic cycle. Yash Dhull, who has been in phenomenal form, has revealed to InsideSport that he will not be available for the knockout stages of the DPL since he has to join North Zone squad for the Duleep Trophy. It would be interesting if he finds Shubman Gill there, who has been advised to get some rest from the NCA doctors. Also, Sanju Samson hasn’t been in the best of form going into the Asia Cup.

Virat Kohli reveals big plans
Virat Kohli has finally shed light on his IPL retirement plans through his RCB teammate Swastik Chikara. Recently, Chikara revealed that Kohli has vowed never to play the league as an Impact Player, stating that he will only continue as long as he is fully fit. “I will field for 20 overs and then bat. The day I have to play as an Impact Player, I will quit cricket,” Kohli told him. The 36-year-old has already retired from T20Is after India’s 2024 World Cup win and shocked fans by stepping away from Test cricket in May 2025. Currently active only in ODIs, Kohli finally ended RCB’s long wait for an IPL trophy by winning the 2025 edition.

Sanju Samson fails before Asia Cup
Sanju Samson’s build-up to the Asia Cup has hit a roadblock. The Kerala batter, who was slotted at No. 5 in his first Kerala Cricket League (KCL) outing, dropped even further to No. 6 in the next game for Kochi Blue Tigers. That move has been suggesting the Indian management wants him to settle in the middle order instead of fighting for an opening slot. But the plan isn’t working yet. Against Alleppey Ripples, Samson scratched his way to 13 off 22 balls, failing to hit a single boundary. All his runs came in singles. With spin-friendly pitches awaiting in the UAE, this was hardly the confidence-booster he or the selectors needed.

Shubman Gill to miss Duleep Trophy?
India skipper Shubman Gill is unlikely to feature in the upcoming Duleep Trophy after the BCCI’s medical team advised against his participation. Gill, who was named captain of North Zone, was expected to play one game before joining the Asia Cup squad. However, a medical report following blood tests suggested he should skip the tournament. In his absence, vice-captain Ankit Kumar is set to lead North Zone, while Shubham Rohilla has been named as his replacement in the squad.

The young batter made headlines at the Delhi Premier League 2025 auction when Central Delhi Kings signed him for Rs 9 lakh after a bidding war.

Yash Dhull confirms unavailability
Yash Dhull, who has been in sensational form for Central Delhi Kings in the Delhi Premier League 2025, has confirmed his unavailability for the knockout stages of DPL as he prepares to join North Zone for the Duleep Trophy. Dhull said his last DPL game will be on August 24 before he leaves on August 25 to link up with Shubman Gill-led North Zone, who play their quarter-final against East Zone on August 28. Dhull has been in remarkable touch, scoring 364 runs at an average of 121.33 and strike rate of 172.51, including the tournament’s first century.

Roadmap for India women’s team for World Cup
India will begin preparations for the Women’s World Cup 2025 with a camp in Vizag from August 25. The camp, an extension of the earlier fitness-based one, will feature the 15-member squad along with six reserves. According to a report, India will also play two intra-squad matches before facing Australia in a three-match ODI series starting September 14 in Mullanpur. Radha Yadav, currently with the India A side in Australia, is expected to join later. Training in Vizag could be great as India are scheduled to play two World Cup matches at the same venue in October.
