Sure, Wendy’s makes burgers. And pretty neat-looking square ones at that.
But if you asked 10 people on the street what their preferred order at the Ohio-based fast-food chain is, odds are you’d likely hear “a Frosty” more often than not. And while its classic chocolate flavor is absolutely spectacular, its limited edition offerings generate plenty of buzz. But now, it seems as though Wendy’s has something else brewing in the Frosty department.
You may soon be able to get a customized Frosty
On Sunday, @snachwithzach and @sodaseekers took to Instagram to share a reel together, unveiling Wendy’s reported plan to allow its customers to customize their Frosty desserts with the all-new Frosty Swirls and Frosty Fusions.
“Wendy’s is reportedly making major changes to its iconic Frosty over the coming months. One of the most popular frozen desserts in fast food, the Frosty has gotten most of its updates in the form of limited-time flavor changes, often using the existing Vanilla flavor as the base for some of its more rambunctious options including Pumpkin Spice, Orange Dreamsicle, and Salted Caramel,” the duo shared in the caption.
They cited a leaked internal memo provided to them by “an anonymous source” that would “vastly extend the customizability of the Frosty. It’s a move that’s highly competitive, and some might argue much overdue.”
Here’s what flavors you may be getting
According to the duo, customers will be able to customize any Frosty flavor by adding a caramel, strawberry, or brownie batter swirl for the Frosty Swirl. As for the Frosty Fusion, the pair said customers can mix either the classic vanilla or chocolate flavor with both a “sauce and various sweet treats.” While they didn’t have specific flavors, the pair said to expect “mix-ins” similar to the Oreo or M&Ms McFlurry.
“The potential of this is massive,” snachwithzach said. “The biggest question I have is how this is going to affect limited-time offerings.”
Fans are pumped — but Wendy’s remains tight-lipped
Fans were quick to jump into the comments section to share their joy at the potential news. “The only Frosty is chocolate. As long as I can get that, I’ll be excited to try more things but the regular chocolate is the star,” one commenter wrote. “the best news of the year so far, for real,” another added.
However, again, none of this is actually confirmed by Wendy’s. Food & Wine reached out for comment, but we were told they cannot confirm “what’s coming down our innovation pipeline.” However, the brand added, “We can share that we’re always looking to bring fans new menu items inspired by our fans’ cravings.”
For now, you can enjoy the Thin Mint Frosty as a little teaser
Even if you have to wait a while for confirmation on if these products are actually coming down the pipeline, that’s OK. Because as of Friday, February 21, you can now get your hands on The Girl Scouts Thin Mint Frosty, made with a vanilla mint base with swirls of chocolate mint sauce, which also sounds like the perfect teaser for all this new innovation to come.
