Netflix
Vince Vaughn headlines the new, sentimental Netflix dramedy Nonnas, about a man who honors his late mother by opening a restaurant that serves up some of her comforting family recipes. The hook? The restaurant’s chefs are all Italian grannies – the titular nonnas – who are played by Susan Sarandon, Lorraine Bracco, Talia Shire, and Brenda Vaccaro. The film is directed by Stephen Chbosky and Joe Manganiello and Linda Cardellini round out the cast.
For a certain generation, the Judy Blume novel Forever, published in 1975, was a touchstone of adolescence, it was a groundbreaking book about young adult relationships that spoke openly and honestly about sex (which also made it a target for censorship in some places). Netflix has turned this young adult novel into a new series set in 2018 Los Angeles as two teens, Keisha (Lovie Simone) and Justin (Michael Cooper Jr.) become each other’s first loves. The show premieres on May 8.
Max
Conan O’Brien Must Go (May 8)
Do you like to learn about new places and cultures by watching travel shows? Then Conan O’Brien Must Go is not the show for you. (Sort of kidding.) On O’Brien’s off-kilter travel show, he brings his unhinged brand of comedy all over the globe, meeting fans of his podcast and immersing himself in local cultures, while also veering far from the beaten path at times. If you know Conan’s comedy, you’ll know what to expect. The three-episode season premieres on May 8.
Paramount Plus
RuPaul’s Drag Race All-Stars Season 10 (May 9)
The tenth season of RuPaul’s Drag Race All-Stars kicks off this week, and brings back fan favorite queens like Aja, Ginger Minj and Jorgeous for a new competition featuring a brand new format. For much of this season, the queens will compete in a bracket-style competition unlike anything we’ve seen before. The first two episodes of the new season will drop Friday on Paramount Plus (you can also catch episodes of the after-show, Untucked, immediately following the weekly episodes). Look out for an incredible lineup of guest judges this season, too, including Ice Spice, Chappell Roan, Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo.
Apple TV Plus
Ewan McGregor might be best known for his roles in Trainspotting and the Star Wars prequels, but he’ll be playing himself in the new Apple TV Plus docu-series Long Way Home. The show co-stars McGregor and his longtime friend Charley Boorman as they travel via motorcycle around Europe. The series is the fourth installment of the duo’s adventures, you can also catch Long Way Up, Long Way Round and Long Way Down on Apple TV Plus.
Hulu
In the new Hulu original film Summer of 69, Sam Morelos plays an awkward high school senior who hires an exotic dancer, played by Saturday Night Live star Chloe Fineman, to help her seduce her crush. The film was co-written and directed by actress Jillian Bell, and the cast is a who’s who of comedy talent, including Liza Koshy, Charlie Day, Nicole Byer, Natalie Morales and Paula Pell.
Peacock
Shortly after filmmaker Rian Johnson created the hit detective movie franchise Knives Out, he turned his sights to the small screen to create the detective TV series Poker Face. Both projects feature a delightfully quirky detective and incredible ensemble casts, but Poker Face harkens back to shows of the 1970s and ’80s like Murder, She Wrote and Columbo, with a mystery of the week solved by a reluctant detective, Charlie Cale (Natasha Lyonne). Cale is a Vegas waitress who happens to have a supernatural ability to sniff out lies, which makes her the perfect person to nab criminals and killers who seem to follow her wherever she goes. The first three episodes of season 2 drop on May 8, with new ones debuting each Thursday after that.
