Huw Edwards’ wife ‘files for divorce’ in the wake of disgraced newsreader’s child porn offences as former BBC star puts £4.75m home on the market

Fallen BBC star Huw Edwards‘ wife has reportedly filed for divorce following his conviction for hoarding vile child-abuse images last month.

The 63-year-old’s wife Vicky Flind steadfastly stood by his side during the scandal and was the one who named him and put an end to speculation around the identity of the BBC employee at the centre of the allegations.

In July, it was reported that Mrs Flind – who is the mother of Edwards’ three sons and two daughters – split from her husband and kicked him out of their six-bedroom family home.

The house in leafy Dulwich, South London, is now up for sale for £4.75million, which the newsreader and his wife bought for £1.85m in 2006.

It is understood the mortgage has been paid off, meaning a sale will give him a bumper pay-day of up to £2million now he is without his £475,000 BBC salary.

And now it has been claimed Mrs Flind has had enough and began the proceedings to end their 30-year marriage.

A source told The Sun: ‘Vicky had enough of Edwards a long time ago but this is the final nail in the coffin of their relationship.

‘He’s put her and their family through hell, so this was inevitable. Unsurprisingly, they separated a long time ago and Edwards has been living elsewhere, but it is now official.

‘Vicky is not talking to him and they now only communicate via lawyers.’

The 63-year-old had previously admitted to three charges of ‘making’ indecent photographs after he was sent 41 illegal images from Alex Williams over WhatsApp.

Chief magistrate Paul Goldspring handed the UK’s ‘most recognisable newsreader’ a six month suspended jail term as he described how Edwards’ reputation was ‘now in tatters’.

Edwards had turned to social media to engage with men and women in order to boost his ‘fragile self-esteem’, according to a psychological assessment.

A psycho-sexual therapist spent more than 21 hours interviewing Edwards to conclude he had been in a ‘perfect storm’ at the time of his offending.

Mr Goldspring read from the pre-sentence reports and said Edwards had managed his interest in men since 1994.

But he didn’t consider his bisexuality to be an excuse for his infidelity as the judge said he has a ‘high level of remorse for the betrayal of his partner and children’.

Edwards claimed to a probation officer that his sick offending was fuelled by alcohol, ‘poor mental health’ and a deterioration of his personal relationship, the court heard.

Delivering his mitigation, Mr Evans said his client was ‘mentally vulnerable’ and claimed he had ‘no memory of viewing any of the images’.

Edwards’ BBC ex-colleagues were disgusted by his crimes and believed he should have been sent to prison and forced to give back the £200,000 he was paid by their bosses after his arrest.

A well-placed source with links to the BBC and ITV said that the evidence that emerged in court against Edwards is so shocking he will never work again.’He is over’, he said, adding: ‘The BBC must be broken up’ due to the way bosses handled the scandal and his suspension.

‘He said that yet another abuse scandal after Jimmy Savile and Rolf Harris is ‘killing its legacy’.

Edwards, who resigned from the BBC in April, has been asked to repay the £200,000 salary he has received since his arrest.

He has so far refused. And will also keep his pension.

BBC staff have described being ‘warned’ about ‘thin-skinned’ Edwards when they started working there – and said that he should be put in prison for what he has done.

A BBC spokesperson said after its former broadcaster Huw Edwards was sentenced: ‘We are appalled by his crimes. He has betrayed not just the BBC, but audiences who put their trust in him.’

MailOnline revealed there is great animosity towards him at the Beeb, who have been rocked by yet another child sex scandal after Jimmy Savile and Rolf Harris.

One BBC staffer said: ‘He still hasn’t repaid his salary and dragged us through the mud again.

‘Many at the BBC want him to pay for what he has done. He has played the system’.

Edwards was the BBC’s highest paid journalist and top news presenter until he quit in April, receiving a yearly salary of up to, according to the broadcaster’s annual report

A former colleague said: ‘Huw had huge talent and presence but has always been very prickly and thin-skinned’.

The Mail reported today that Edwards’ and his wife’s home is being sold by Pedder and is for sale on Rightmove. It is described as a ‘substantial detached mid century family house’.

The advert says: ‘Set on one of Dulwich’s most desirable residential roads, this substantial six double bedroom detached mid century family house.

‘The property has been tastefully renovated and extended by the current owners and with a gross internal area of 4239 sq ft offers extensive living accommodation arranged over three floors.

‘The ground floor has a spacious reception hall, three reception rooms, recently re-fitted kitchen/dining room, office/library, cloakroom, utility room and downstairs WC.

‘On the first floor there are four double bedrooms, one with en-suite bathroom and separate dressing room and a family bathroom.

‘The second floor has two double bedrooms and a bathroom.

‘Externally to the front there is a drive providing off street parking for several vehicles and access to a double length garage. To the rear there is a most delightful, mature garden measuring 75’x69′.’

The advert also gives a glimpse inside the pervert’s home, including a pool table and a piano.

It also has a spacious garden, with a trampoline. Other homes in the street have sold for £million.

Because there is no mortgage on the property, and assuming any settlement with TV producer Mrs Flind is split down the middle – as experts predict in such cases – he could pocket half the proceeds.

Mrs Flind initially stuck by the 63-year-old after a storm amid his sexting scandal, but booted him out when he was arrested in November.

He has since been living in a cramped flat in Wandsworth.

There was fury when Edwards was given a six-month jail sentence, suspended for two years, after he admitted charges of making indecent images of children.

Edwards’ wife’s statement in full as she names BBC star at centre of ‘£35k sex pics scandal’

‘In light of the recent reporting regarding the “BBC Presenter” I am making this statement on behalf of my husband Huw Edwards, after what have been five extremely difficult days for our family.

‘I am doing this primarily out of concern for his mental well-being and to protect our children.

‘Huw is suffering from serious mental health issues. As is well documented, he has been treated for severe depression in recent years.

‘The events of the last few days have greatly worsened matters, he has suffered another serious episode and is now receiving in-patient hospital care where he’ll stay for the foreseeable future.

‘Once well enough to do so, he intends to respond to the stories that have been published.

‘To be clear Huw was first told that there were allegations being made against him last Thursday.

‘In the circumstances and given Huw’s condition I would like to ask that the privacy of my family and everyone else caught up in these upsetting events is respected.

‘I know that Huw is deeply sorry that so many colleagues have been impacted by the recent media speculation. We hope this statement will bring that to an end.’
