On June 3, RCB ended their hoodoo of never winning an IPL trophy. However, tragic stampede broke outside M Chinnaswamy Stadium the very next day.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have announced financial support for the families of the 11 people who lost their lives during the stampede outside M Chinnaswamy Stadium on June 4. The franchise confirmed that each family will receive ₹25 lakh as part of their newly launched initiative, RCB Cares.
The announcement comes nearly three months after the tragedy that unfolded during RCB’s IPL 2025 victory parade. What was supposed to be a historic celebration of the team’s maiden title turned into a day of grief. It left, not only the city, but the entire country shaken. Not to mention, RCB also revealed their support of Rs 10 lakh to each of the eleven families that lost their dear ones on June 5 as well.
RCB launches ‘RCB Cares’ initiative
In an emotional statement, the franchise acknowledged the loss:
“Our hearts broke on June 4, 2025. We lost eleven members of the RCB family. They were part of us, part of what makes our city, our community, and our team unique. No amount of support can ever fill the space they’ve left behind. But as a first step, and with the deepest respect, RCB has extended ₹25 lakh each to their families.”
It was also RCB’s first major social media communication since June 5, a day after the tragedy. For nearly three months, the team had remained silent across platforms before breaking it with an emotional post two days ago as they announced their RCB Cares programme.
Consequences for Chinnaswamy Stadium stampede
The tragedy has had far-reaching consequences beyond the IPL. The Justice Cunha Commission, set up to investigate the incident, concluded that M Chinnaswamy Stadium was “unfit” for mass gatherings, citing its design and structural limitations. The report held RCB, KSCA, and event organizers DNA Entertainment accountable.
Following the recommendations, the stadium has already been stripped of hosting rights for the upcoming ICC Women’s ODI World Cup. Bengaluru was originally scheduled to stage four games, including a semifinal, but those have now been shifted to Guwahati and Navi Mumbai.
