DRS Nov 28: KL Rahul vs LSG, No Mohammed Shami for BGT & Another duck for Prithvi Shaw after IPL Auction

Welcome to our special segment, DRS or the Daily Review System. In this, InsideSport will provide you with the top cricket stories from a day before that you might have missed in the hustle and bustle of your busy life.

The dust has settled on the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction. Following all the changes, players have started to bid adieu to their former teams and have received warm receptions in their new allegiances. Part of these shenanigans was the good-bye message from KL Rahul, who left a text for his LSG family. Interestingly, there was nothing mentioned about LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka by Rahul, who beckons his journey with the Delhi Capitals (DC). Meanwhile, the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) continued, where Hardik Pandya brought out his best once more. Unfortunately, Prithvi Shaw had another forgetful moment when umpire judged him out wrongfully when he was on a duck. Also, the Indian team landed in Canberra for their preparations for the warm-up game against Prime Ministers XI. On that note, here are six of the top most cricketing stories from November 27, Wednesday.

After IPL Auction, another low for Prithvi Shaw

Prithvi Shaw’s struggles continued as he was given out for a three-ball duck in Mumbai’s Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) match against Maharashtra. Shaw, who went unsold in the IPL 2025 auction, was caught behind down the leg side, but replays suggested he was unlucky. The decision left Shaw dejected, adding to his woes after being dropped from Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy team due to being overweight and failing to attract any bidders in the IPL auction.

No Mohammed Shami for BGT

Mohammed Shami, who recently returned to action after a year-long injury layoff, will not be joining the Indian team for the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT). Despite his impressive performance in a Ranji Trophy game, the BCCI wants him to continue working on his fitness in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT). With the current pace attack performing well, there’s no need to rush Mohammed Shami back into Test cricket, and he’ll remain in India for now.

Shubman Gill to miss 2nd BGT Test?

Shubman Gill’s finger injury has left him doubtful for the India vs Australia 2nd Test in Adelaide. Gill sustained the injury during fielding drills on November 16 and was advised a 10-14 day rest. He is expected to miss the practice match against Prime Minister’s XI and his availability for the 2nd Test is uncertain. A source stated that Gill will need quality practice before playing a Test match, adding to the uncertainty surrounding his participation.

KL Rahul vs LSG owner

KL Rahul might have revealed that his exit from the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) was due to a fractured relationship with franchise owner Sanjiv Goenka. Tensions between them began after Goenka publicly criticized Rahul following a loss to the Sunrisers Hyderabad last season. Rahul’s farewell message to LSG omitted Goenka’s name, highlighting the rift. In contrast, Rishabh Pant and Delhi Capitals’ co-owner Parth Jindal exchanged heartfelt thank-you messages. Despite efforts to reconcile, the relationship didn’t improve. At the IPL 2025 mega auction, LSG didn’t bid for Rahul, who was eventually sold to another team for ₹14 crore.

PCB’s stupidity causing Champions Trophy’s broadcasters trouble

The ICC Champions Trophy is facing uncertainty due to India’s refusal to travel to Pakistan, citing geopolitical conflicts. The ICC missed a deadline to release the tournament’s schedule, affecting media partners like JioStar, who are concerned about commercial opportunities. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has expressed frustration to the ICC, while India remains adamant against a hybrid model. The impasse has created a tricky situation for the ICC, with no clear solution in sight.

Jasprit Bumrah – World No. 1

Indian cricketers have made massive gains in the latest ICC rankings. Jasprit Bumrah has reclaimed the top spot in the Test Bowler Rankings after his eight-wicket haul against Australia. He was the leader of the team that ended Australia’s unbeaten record at the Optus Stadium. Yashasvi Jaiswal has risen to second place in the Test Batter Rankings after scoring 161 runs. Virat Kohli’s 30th Test century has elevated him to 13th place. Mohammed Siraj has also moved up three spots to 25th in the bowler rankings.
