One of Apple’s big advantages over their magazine offering is that News is preinstalled on all new iPhones and iPad tablets. NOOK Newspapers and NOOK Magazines contain all articles, news stories, editorials, and obituaries to which the publisher has digital rights.  This means some content, such as advertisements, crosswords, box scores, stock quotes, and weather maps, may not be included.

Barnes and Noble does not offer a subscription plan for any of its magazines. All content must be purchased individually or as a 12-month subscription. However, all first-time subscribers receive a FREE 14-day trial of any digital magazine.

Amazon

Amazon used to operate their Newsstand for close to a decade, but discontinued it in 2023.  The only way to access digital magazines is to subscribe to Kindle Unlimited or pay for an Amazon Prime account, which provides access to Prime Reading.

Amazon Prime members can access magazines through Prime Reading, which offers a selection of 3000 digital magazines and comics. One of the drawbacks is that you can only borrow one issue at a time. Reviews of Amazon Prime Reading magazines note that the selection is limited and the format is not ideal for reading.

With Kindle Unlimited, an ever-growing selection of more than 4 million digital books, audiobooks, comics, and magazines are at your disposal.
