Steven Spielberg has long been fascinated by the idea of extraterrestrial life and is known for iconic science-fiction films such as E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial and Close Encounters of the Third Kind. He recently offered a rare glimpse into his family’s views on the subject at the film’s New York premiere. He said that the discussions about aliens are still a hot topic in the Spielberg household, as Disclosure Day is set to release on June 12.Â
“I’m not sure my wife has given it that much thought, certainly not as much thought as I have,” Spielberg exclusively told E! News at the event. “My kids have given it a lot of thought, and they’re very open to the experiences that others have had. “We tend to believe the believers. Kate also believes the believers, and I think they will be vindicated eventually.”
Though the 79-year-old is open to the possibility of extraterrestrial beings, he isn’t focusing on any potential future interactions. In fact, he’s had enough of them onscreen. He explained the same on the red carpet.Â
“I don’t look ahead to that kind of experience because vicariously, I’ve experienced contact between the species in several movies,” he said, “starting with Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and then E.T., and now Disclosure Day. In between that, I co-produced the Men in Black series, and I directed War of the Worlds.”
For context, Spielberg has long been known for making movies about extraterrestrial life and helping shape the sci-fi genre. His alien-themed films tapped into mankind’s curiosity, fear, and awe of existence beyond Earth. Decades later, Spielberg is still fascinated by what may lie beyond the Earth, as seen in projects like Disclosure Day.Â
His latest project continues a creative journey that has spanned decades, building on themes that have defined some of his most celebrated sci-fi films.Â
Why Disclosure Day feels like a natural evolution of Steven Spielberg’s sci-fi legacy?
With Disclosure Day, Steven Spielberg returns to a theme that has long preoccupied him. However, unlike his earlier movies involving aliens, in which he portrayed them as characters in stories of adventure or fantasy, in this movie, he considers how society would react to the discovery of non-human intelligence.

Spielberg’s statements reflect an ongoing interest in the topic of aliens in both real life and on screen. His family members’ beliefs about aliens are reflective of ideas that he has worked with in his career. It seems that Spielberg is still fascinated by mankind’s relationship with the unknown, utilizing sci-fi to explore beliefs and the possibility of extraterrestrials.
